Stacey Buckner, a Cumberland County native, received the Governor's Medallion Award for Volunteer Service for her work supporting homeless veterans through her nonprofit, Off-Road Outreach. Since 2005, she has provided mobile showers, food, and toiletries to Cumberland County’s homeless veterans via a specially equipped Jeep. Honored in a virtual ceremony on April 20, Gov. Roy Cooper praised Buckner and other volunteers for exemplifying North Carolina's state motto, “To be, rather than to seem.” Buckner, who also works part-time at the Fayetteville VA Hospital with ServiceSource, shares her award with all Cumberland County volunteers who serve the community.
